17:00 GRAND PARK HOTEL ROVINJ, Lungomare Plaza Promenade:
A visual journey through the landscapes and wilderness of Africa
Namib – The Atlantic – Okavango
Between sky and earth, a landscape unfolds, in all its hidden lines, structures and rhythms.
The exhibition “Between Sky and Earth – Africa” gathers photographs depicting landscapes of southern and easter Africa – Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania – which reveal strength, rhythm and almost surreal beauty of the region. A large part of the photographs was taken from the air, from small aircraft, helicopters, and balloons, opening up a different perspective from which the African landscape transforms into complex visual compositions. Shot from the space between sky and earth, these images reveal the landscape through its hidden lines, structures, and rhythms: from the geometry of the dunes of the Namib Desert and their unique encounter with the Atlantic Ocean to scenes of wildlife in the watery landscapes of the Okavango Delta.
Observed from a distance, these scenes often acquire an almost abstract quality, where nature creates compositions that remind of painterly and graphic structures. Along with photographs shot from the air, the exhibition also features selected ground-level scenes, complementing the view of the African space with a more intimate experience of its landscapes and wilderness.
Between sky and earth, in the space from which these photographs were taken, the African landscape reveals itself as a place where the monumentality of nature and its fragility meet in a constant interaction of light, space, and time.
Seen from above, Africa transforms into a landscape of lines, textures, and movement, in which nature itself forms magnificent visual compositions.
