The Dream
Between the 1950s and early 1960s, Enrico Mattei commissioned the construction of a holiday village for Eni workers, choosing Borca di Cadore as its location. The architect Edoardo Gellner was entrusted with the project. The village included 280 villas of varying sizes, a hotel, a residence, a church (designed in collaboration with architect Carlo Scarpa), a settlement with wooden huts, and a large children’s summer camp.

For Enrico Mattei, this ambitious project was the realization of a dream: to promote community and well-being among Eni workers and their families. Sadly, he died in 1962 in a plane crash caused by an attack and never saw the project completed.

Upon entering the summer camp, built for the children of Eni employees, one immediately sees how carefully it was designed to welcome children into a colorful and lively environment—with large play areas and bright, open rooms. Enrico Mattei’s dream was, above all, to make his employees and their families feel cared for and valued.
