All exhibitions will be open during the first day of the festival, June 10.
One is European premiere is worth mentioning: the “Women Who Shot Rock (50 Years of Rock Music)” exhibition, by New York curator Gail Buckland, will be presented here for the first time. Buckland is a great photography authority. This famous curator, publicist and art historian who deals exclusively with art photography, initiated by the festival organizers will bring together a number of female photographers who have taken some of the most interesting photographs of rock performers over the last 50 years. This exhibition is a continuation of the curator’ successful American project “Who Shot Rock & Roll” which unites the work of over one hundred photographers in the eponymous book and exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. Some of the exhibited photographs were those by such greats as Richard Avedon, Anton Corbijn, Diane Arbus, Annie Leibovitz and many others. Gail Buckland will hold a lecture in conjunction with the official program and will be one of the portfolio reviewers.
An exhibition of 40 black and white and 6 color photographs by world famous photographer Erwin Blumenfeld, will be brought to Croatia by his son Yorick Blumenfeld, who during the festival will hold a lecture about his father’s work. Blumenfeld's fashion photography moved the boundaries of communication of magazines such as Vogue in his time, and this master's work on the famous covers of this magazine is remembered by many.
In collaboration with the Italian Center of Research and Archiviation of Photography (CRAF) from Spilimbergo, a display of photographs from two famous Italian photographers: Mario Gaiacomelli and Franco Fontana will be presented at the festival, and with thanks to the Italian “SI Fest” festival of modern photography, visitors will be able to see an exhibition which will include works by many prominent young European photographers.
In addition to these presentations also on the display will be the finalists and winner of the annual “Rovinj Photodays” competition and the winner of the Lifetime's Achievement award- Frank Horvat, alongside a series of open air exhibitions in which press agencies, media portals and photography specialists take part.
