Exhibition of photographs by the finalists and the winners of the contest PD 2010

ZAGREB- An exhibition of photographs by the finalists and the winners of the contest ˝Photodays 2010˝ will be opened starting 8 PM on Thursday, September 2 in the Museum of Arts and Crafts. The collection will remain exhibited until September 10 and will be presented by Denis Redić, the festival’s C.E.O., Helena Srakocic, the president of this year’s jury and Dubravka Osrečki Jakelić, a museum consultant in the Museum of Arts and Crafts and also a member of this year’s jury. All the photographs from the exhibition will also be included into the Museum’s Collection of Newer Photographs.
The Best Photographs Fom the Previous Year
The collection ˝Photodays 2010˝ encompasses the most accomplished photographs that have this year, as well, been selected by the international jury of the ˝Rovinj Photodays˝festival from a total of 10 000 photographs that had been submitted for the official contest.
Intended for Croatian photographers, the contest is announced every year as part of the festival. The entire project has been concieved as an evaluation of works and contributions to photography, as well as a means of highlighting the most significant works in the period of a year.
The exhibition, therefore, in a way represents but a partial retrospective of Croatian photography during the previous year, however, it certainly delivers quality insight into its development and into a more thorough perspective. In total, thirty photographs and series of photographs will be presented within their respective segments, which means that the exhibition will encompass photographs by the winners and the finalists of the categories: publishing, fashion, nudes, freestyle, architecture, nature, professional concept and multimedia.

The Photodays Festival
The national photography festival Photodays was initiated with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and Maistra as a general sponsor, and already in its first year captured the attention of not only the Croatian public, but also that of neighbouring countries. This year’s edition of the ˝Rovinj Photodays˝ festival is its third, while the festival represents a year-round project that aims to provide photographers with opportunities for quality networking, to educate, to monitor the development of photography and to raise awareness about the art of photography in the area.
Each year, the organisers strive to arrange as many quality exhibitions as possible, to engage a variety international photography experts as lecturers or workshop leaders, arrange quality portfolio reviews and make other happenings as interesting as possible for both the public at large and for those who visit the festival as aficionados of photography.
This year, photographs by authors such as H. Newton, S. Taylor Wood, N. Godin, M. Ray, R. Gibson, N. Araki, C. Beaton, D. Lange, F. Capa, H. C. Bresson, W. Klein, J. L. Sieff and many others have been presented within our exhibitions whereas, due to photographers from all around the globe being involved in various events within the festival, there is a large interest for the festival's activites in the entire region.
