The rules of competition

COMPETITION TENDER

The tender is put out publicly, according to the provisions of the Tender Regulations, at least three months before holding the festival. The organizer shall ensure the supervision of the application of all parts of these Regulations during the realization of the festival.

COMPETITION CATEGORIES

  1. ARCHITECTURE
    Equal number of photographs of the interior, exterior and panoramas (bridges, buildings, panoramas of cities, living areas, urban landscape, etc.) NOTE: Photographs may show abstract forms and perceptions of architecture.
  2. FASHION
    Fashion photography is very often the result of joint work by more creative persons (art directors, stylists, makeup artists, models…).
    This category encompasses, beauty photographs, model photographs, clothes items photographs, fashion street photographs, etc. Although fashion photographs are most often intended for magazines, fashion brands and campaigns, this is not a precondition.
  3. LANDSCAPE
    Landscape, nature, aerial photography, underwater photography, plant and animal life, travelogue photographs…
  4. PORTRAITS
    Portraits, self-portraits, social events, sports… A portrait shown through different styles, themes and approaches – from the portrait commissioned for the needs of the media or a fashion campaign, to spontaneous and intimate portraits of family members and friends, and to art projects based on the portrait…
  5. APPLIED PHOTOGRAPHY
    This category is intended for professional photographers, and in order to apply for this category, a photographer needs to enclose an evidence of having published photographs (advertisement layout, catalogue, issue in a magazine…).
    All aspects of commissioned photographs are included into this category, except fashion and newspaper (documentary) photography, which are a special category.
  6. NUDE
    The vision and understanding of human body, the play of form, light, shadows and curves (male and female nude). The photographs in this category deal with human body from researching form to questioning gender identity, understanding beauty and vulnerability/mortality of the body.
  7. DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHS
    Documentary photography includes shooting undirected situations without subsequent manipulation, cutting or adding image elements. It encompasses newspaper, travelogue, social, war photography, … This category is intended for professional newspaper photographers, but also for all those shooting “street” photography or use photo-essays to talk about important social issues.

    Special categories:
  8. PUBLICATIONS
    Photo-monographs, exhibition catalogues and exhibition booklets published in 2010 sent with the application by mail. NOTES: In this category, the date when the publication was issued is especially important, regardless of when the photographs used for the publication were made. Regardless of the application in this category, each photographer may apply 20 additional works for the competition.
  9. ARTISTIC CONCEPT (A CONCEPT THROUGH A SERIES OF IMAGES)  

    PBZ
    Artistic concept includes a series of photographs (at least 10, no more than 20), with a clearly defined idea, intended for a display in museums and galleries. A description of the project (artist’s statement) and the author’s CV should be enclosed with the photographs. This category is intended for the photographers and artists who express themselves through photography. The finalists shall deliver the works prepared for exhibition. Besides the financial award, Photodays shall enable the winner in this category to hold a one-man exhibition.
    NOTES: Every photographer may apply 2 artistic concepts at the most, while the CV and the description shall be sent by e-mail (jumbo mail) or regular mail. Besides the application for this category, each photographer may apply 20 additional works for the competition. In the category Artistic Concept, photographers may apply concepts and photographs regardless of the date when they were made, which means that there is no time limit in this category.
  10. VIDEO SHOT BY A PHOTO-CAMERA
    It is important to state the name and description of the work, as well as methods and techniques of work in the application.
    NOTES: There is no limit regarding the number of applications, and films shall be sent by mail, along with the CV and description. Regardless of the application in this category, each photographer may apply 20 additinal works for the competition. Films may be applied regardless of the date when they were made, which means that there is no time limit in this category.
  11. SPECIAL AWARD FOR YOUNG AUTHORS (UNDER 28) Awarded to the author based on applications in all categories/Photographers need not apply specially for this category.
