RULES OF COMPETITION
PHOTODAYS is a national expert gathering of all participants of Croatian photographic community, organized by the company Astoria,
sponsored by Maistra, a member of the Adris Group.
The project Photodays will be held once a year in regular intervals.
Tender will be invited publicly, according to the provisions of this regulation, at least three months before the festival.
The organizer shall supervise the application of all articles of this regulation in the realization of the festival.
Supervising assistants shall be appointed in such a way as to be suggested by the jury, in which process it is important that the
criteria of expertise are met.
GENERAL PRINCIPLES
COMPETITION PHOTOGRAPHS
Photographs entered for the competition shall be:
- those accompanied by a registration form containing all particulars about the photographer
- those which arrive in time
- those which correspond to the announced groups and categories
- those sent in the form and quantity corresponding to tender
- those accompanied by all required particulars.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Basic competition categories are the following:
- ADVERTISING
- ARCHITECTURE
- FASHION
- PUBLISHING
- NATURE, SOCIETY, ART
- EROTIC PHOTOGRAPHY
- GENERATED PHOTOGRAPHY
- NEWSPAPER PHOTOGRAPHY
The applicants shall commit to renounce copyrights in favor of the organizer, without compensation, for the needs of the
promotion of the festival.
AWARDS AND POINTS
All winners in a particular category shall win the Cadre.
A list of 24 best applicants (three in each category) will be announced at the end of the victory ceremony.
JURY
PHOTODAYS jury shall be composed of 8 members, with one associate member for the category Advertising.
The members of the jury are curators, gallery owners, photographers and many other distinguished personalities, and all of them will be following the provisions of this regulation.
Each jury member will make decisions individually and independently, according to his own expert knowledge, reputation and authority.
While making a decision, the member of the jury shall evaluate creativity and quality of performance of the registered photograph.
Before starting the process of evaluation, each jury member shall sign a statement saying that he will evaluate the photographs exclusively on the basis of his own estimate of the criteria.
After every round of evaluation, each jury member shall sign his own evaluation forms.
A member of the jury cannot participate in the competition nor evaluate his own work.
Each member of the jury, including the president, vote and participate equally in the evaluation of photographs entered for the competitive part of the Photodays.
The work of the jury shall be coordinated by the president of the jury.
THE PRESIDENT OF THE JURY
In accordance with the regulation on the evaluation of photographs registered for the competition, the president of the jury suggests
the criteria for the evaluation and awarding the works, takes care that the work of the jury proceeds without disturbances, coordinates
the work of all members of the jury, is responsible for the application of all adopted ethical principles, informs the management and
the public about the work of the jury and represents the jury/work of the jury in general. The president of the jury shall sign the
voting report and submit it to the manager of Photodays not more than three days after the jury has finished with the task.
EVALUATING
The jury shall choose the best photographs through a two-stage process of evaluation. The received photographs shall be grouped in
eight competitive categories, from which five photographs will be chosen for the second final round of the competition. In the second
round the jury decides about three awards, the first, the second and the third for each category. There is one associate member, an
expert in marketing and advertising, in the category Advertising. The winner of each category wins the Cadre.
SPECIAL REMARKS
The record of the evaluation shall be available to all participants of the Festival, as well as to the representatives of the media.
The members of the jury and applicants shall commit to silence, meaning they shall commit not to disclose any information about the
voting in public, until they are authorized to do so by the management, or until the official public announcement of the results.
The jury shall publicly argument the decision about awarding. All members of the jury shall participate in the media presentation
of the festival on the request by the festival director.
The jury may include other relevant experts or organizations in the evaluation process if most members agree that it is necessary.
By accepting to act as a jury member, all members shall automatically commit to apply all the provisions of this regulation.
By entering their photographs for the competition, all participants of the festival confirm their acceptance of all the above mentioned terms and provisions.
The organizer of the Photodays alone is authorized to make any changes in this regulation, and in such a case he shall timely notify the public.
WHO CAN APPLY?
The competition is open for all photographers from Croatia.
APPLICATION
Photographs can be entered:
- by filling an on-line application form and uploading the photographs;
- by sending the photographs and the filledapplication form
(in .pdf form which can be downloaded from our web-site);
- by e-mail to prijava@photodays-rovinj.com (one e-mail attachment shall
not exceed 10 MB);
- by sending photographs and the filled application form
(in .pdf form which can be downloaded from our web-site) to the address Astoria d.o.o., P.O.B. 387, 51000 Rijeka (specifying: for
Photodays).
When sending the material on-line, by e-mail or mail, the name of the photograph and the name of the category/categories for
which it is entered should be indicated along with your particulars.
The photographs will not be accepted unless all the necessary particulars are given and all the rules of the competition are met.
Photographs shall be entered for the competition until the date indicated on the application form and on the web-site.
The organizer shall retain the right to refuse an application without further explanation.
Received photographs will not be returned.
STANDARDS FOR PHOTOGRAPHS
Minimal technical standards for digital photographs shall be the following:
- Dimensions cca 3000 x 2250 pixels
- 6 MP
- 300 dpi
Digital applications must be saved in .jpg format. The name of the document sent in .jpg format must correspond to the name of the photograph on the filled application form.
The photographs developed by traditional procedure on photo-paper can also be entered for the competition, but in the format 30x40 cm.
SIGNATURES, SEALS, MARKINGS
Developed photographs sent to the competition must not be marked by signatures, marks or author’s identification signs at the front. Such photographs shall be labeled with the particulars of the author in such a way as to keep the sign invisible through paper and written or printed in ink which does not leave marks on the back of the photograph. The name and surname of the author, the name of the photograph and the name of the category should be written on the back of the photograph.
PAYMENT
There is no participation fee for the competition or the application.
PACKAGING
Pack the photographs carefully in order to protect them from any damages during transport. Sent photographs shall not be returned.
CATEGORIES
One author can enter 20 photographs at the most.
COPYRIGHT AND USAGE OF PHOTOGRAPHS
Copyright and any other similar rights belong to the photographers. The application of the photograph(s) which is not the author’s
is strictly forbidden. The person applying the photograph(s) must be the original author of the same. In case of a violation of this
competition rule, the organizer shall take all necessary legal measures.
The name and surname of the author shall be indicated along with the used photographs in all official publications, as well as during
the exhibition of applied photographs and the best works among those. All competitors accept that the organizers of Photodays and the
general sponsor may use the registered works for marketing and advertising purposes, including publishing the same in all media (press,
print, digital), exhibitions and other similar events connected with the manifestation Photodays.
